Kyle's First Blog ~ Stuff About Me

Hi everyone, my name is Kyle Hunt. Although this is not my first class at Linn Benton Community College, I am somewhat new to the business world. Credit-wise I'm currently a sophomore at LBCC with a generalized focus in Business Administration, after recently taking a step back from the tireless demands of the Civil Engineering program. I chose this course not only because of it's requirement, but due to my keen interest for understanding more about human nature and how collectively, it affects the world that surrounds us.  

Something that caught my attention from the first day of class and as I think more about, I fall more curious with, is the idea  of entities (companies) wear different masks to play different parts of society and how marketing is able to influence that. Outside of my life at school, I love to spend my time skiing with my friends and simply enjoying the company of those around me. I have many hobbies but none of them are too extensive in my eyes. One random thing I wish I did more of is reading non-fiction to help mold a more creative side of every day thinking.

About the picture: My two friends and I decided to over-night backpack and summit Middle Sister before James (center) graduated from OSU and flew back to Santa Barbara. Something funny about this trip is that the whole time we were on this little adventure, up until about an hour-and-a-half before we summited Middle Sister, we were heading to the completely wrong peak. We all laugh now about what would've come of it if we hadn't happened to crossed paths with those other hikers.

Airbnb, a company that values "turning travel into a way of life", has changed the traveling experience since it's launch by reinventing the preexisting idea that traveling doesn't have to be expensive .  If you're not familiar with the service yourself, I'm sure you have a friend that is, and could vouch for the simplistic user-friendly process involved.  The business model of Airbnb has never failed to impress me, acting as a transactional facilitator between community hosts and displaced travelers to entertain the demand for affordable accommodation. The reason this matter speaks to me specifically is not only because of the impact the company has been able to make to literally save human lives in real time, but more in-line with this class, it's how the company is able to manipulate they're business structure in efforts to help alleviate the largest refugee crisis since World War II while promoting their brand.
